Skrill, a well-known payment processor formerly called Moneybookers, has decided to discontinue facilitating transactions for gamblers in Canada. Benjamin Salskaya, a member of the 2+2 poker player forum, initially shared this information. In a letter, Skrill officials announced that they will no longer receive payments from merchants. The company cited a “global assessment of its activities” as the reason for this decision, but did not provide any further details.
The company’s exit from the Canadian market coincided with a peculiar incident that recently unfolded at the Titan Poker room. Canadian players received a notice stating that the room planned to terminate its financial operations within 30 days. This announcement followed the planned transfer of the Ladbrokes iPoker room to the MPN network. However, just a few days later, Titan tweeted from its official Twitter account that Canadian customers could still engage in gameplay, deposit and withdraw funds, and even generate real profits. In addition, players were offered bonuses to incentivize them to continue playing in the “uncertain” room, which is part of the iPoker network.
The cause of this confusion remains a mystery. There have been no changes in gambling legislation, and no international mandates demanding drastic actions have been imposed. Therefore, despite Skrill confirming its course of action, the motivation behind it remains unclear.
